The paid version remains, in my opinion, quite worth it. The free edition restricts you to one family of platforms: desktop or mobile. To quote the old credit card commercial: it’s everywhere I want to be.īesides passwords, I use it to automatically fill in credit card information when I make online purchases, and I use the secure notes feature to keep additional free-form information. It works on all the platforms I care about, including all my browsers, Windows, Mac, Android, and iPad. What convinced me was an episode of Security Now several years ago where Steve Gibson did a deep dive into LastPass technology. I’ve used and recommended it for years, and it’s done well for me. I’ll cut to the chase and mention LastPass. That being said, trust in your password vault is critical, which is one reason I’m listing alternatives as well. While the most recent LastPass hack is important to note, it is not a reason to avoid LastPass. I discussed in a previous article that the headlines mislead.
